Privacy Policy

Effective 3 November 2026. Applies to the Codekin app for Android (package com.plycoder.Codekin).

Codekin is a coding app for children. We built it so that it does not need to know anything about your child, and it does not try to find out. This page explains exactly what happens to information in the app.

1. No accounts, no personal information

Codekin has no sign in and no account. We never ask for a name, email address, phone number, photo or exact location, and we, Plycoder, do not receive any personal information about your child.

2. What stays on the phone

To remember progress, the app saves these things in its own private storage on the device:

• the programs your child builds, for each world and puzzle;
• lesson progress, puzzle stars, quiz scores, Computer basics answers, badges, the day streak and the chosen costume for Bit;
• settings such as language, read-aloud, sound and short instructions;
• how many ads were shown today and when, so the app can keep ads rare, and whether Remove ads was bought.

None of this is sent anywhere. Uninstalling Codekin, or clearing its storage in the phone settings (Apps, Codekin, Storage, Clear data), deletes all of it.

3. Ads

The Android app shows a short full-screen ad now and then, only at a break (after a game or a finished quiz), never while your child is playing or answering, never in the first minutes of using the app, at least five minutes apart and at most eight times a day.

Ads come from Google AdMob, an ad network certified for Google Play's Families program. Every ad request is marked as directed to children and under the age of consent, asks for non-personalised ads only, and allows only content rated for general audiences (G). The app does not use the advertising ID: that permission is removed from the app. No consent form is shown because every user is treated as a child.

To show an ad and prevent fraud, Google may process limited technical information such as the device's IP address (which gives an approximate location), device and app information, and whether an ad was seen or tapped. Google handles it under its own rules for child-directed requests; see the Google advertising policies and the Google Privacy Policy. Plycoder does not receive this information in a form that identifies your child.

4. Remove ads

A grown-up can turn ads off for good with a one-time purchase of US$2.00 (or the local price shown by Google Play), from the grown-up area behind the multiplication question. Payment is handled entirely by Google Play: we never see card or payment details. The app only asks Google Play whether this Google account owns the purchase, so ads stay off after a reinstall (use Restore purchase). Once it is owned, the app does not start the ad system at all.

5. Read-aloud

Codekin reads instructions aloud using the text-to-speech engine already installed on your phone, such as Speech Services by Google. The text of the instruction is passed to that engine on the device. How that engine works is covered by its own maker's privacy policy. Codekin does not record sound and does not use the microphone or camera.

6. Copy and paste

In the grown-up area, a parent can copy a plain-text progress report or a Python program to the phone's clipboard, for example to paste into a message. Nothing is copied unless a grown-up taps the copy button.

7. Grown-up area and links

The progress report, Remove ads, the Python editor and the computer setup guide sit behind a simple grown-up check (a multiplication question). The app itself has no links that send a child to a website, a store or social media. An ad may open a store or website when tapped, as ads do; ads are kept to breaks and are rated for general audiences.

8. Children's privacy

Codekin is designed for children aged 7 to 13. We do not collect personal information from children. Ads are child-directed and non-personalised, the advertising ID is not used, and only a Families-certified ad network is used. This is how we meet the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the GDPR and the UK Age Appropriate Design Code, and Google Play's Families policy.

9. Changes to this policy

If a future version of the app changes how it handles information, we will update this page and the effective date before that version is released.
