Help and Support

Stuck on something? Most answers are below. If not, write to tulx.app@gmail.com and tell us your phone model and the app language. We usually reply within two days.

The app does not read aloud in my language

Codekin uses the phone's own text-to-speech voice. If the voice for Bangla, Hindi, Chinese or Arabic is missing, the app shows a short notice once.

  1. Open the phone's Settings and search for Text-to-speech.
  2. Choose Speech Services by Google as the engine (install it from Google Play if it is not there).
  3. Tap the gear icon next to it, then Install voice data, and download your language.
  4. Close Codekin fully and open it again.

My child is stuck on a puzzle

Tap Need a hint? under the puzzle goal. The first hint gives the idea. Another hint shows the first blocks to use and makes the right block glow on the shelf. The last step, Show me the answer, puts a working program on the canvas. It can be undone. A run of that answer without any change earns one star, so there is still a reason to make it their own.

Stuck in a lesson step

Each lesson step has its own hint button, and Show me plays a short demonstration of where the block goes. Turning on Short instructions in the canvas menu makes every step one simple line.

How do the quizzes work?

Open Quizzes on the home screen. There are seven practice quizzes, one for each idea, with six questions each. Every answer is checked once, then the right answer and a short reason are shown. Two stars or more in a quiz means the idea is understood. The Final quiz opens after every practice quiz has been done once: 15 questions, and 11 right is a pass. Best scores are saved and appear in the grown-ups' progress report.

What do the stars mean?

One star for reaching the goal, two for a shorter program, three for a program at or under the block count shown on the puzzle. Stars never go down, and they unlock new costumes for Bit.

How do I see my child's progress?

On the home screen, tap For grown-ups: progress report and answer the multiplication question. You will see lessons finished, Robot Maze levels, stars and the coding ideas learned. You can copy it as text to share with a teacher.

Where is the Python editor?

Open a world, then the menu, then Write code. It sits behind the grown-up question because it uses the phone keyboard. Code typed there turns into blocks, and mistakes are explained with the line number.

How do I start over?

To restart one lesson, tap the restart arrow on the lesson strip (Start the lesson over). Your blocks stay where they are. To wipe everything, open the phone's Settings, Apps, Codekin, Storage, and tap Clear data. This cannot be undone.

How do I remove ads?

On the home screen, tap For grown-ups: progress report and answer the multiplication question. Tap Remove ads and finish the purchase in Google Play (US$2.00, shown in your local currency). It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Ads stop at once on this phone.

I bought Remove ads but I still see ads

Open the same grown-up area and tap Restore purchase. This asks Google Play again, for example after a reinstall or on a new phone with the same Google account. If a payment is still pending, ads turn off as soon as it goes through. Still stuck? Write to us with the order number from your Google Play receipt.

When do ads appear?

Only at a break: after a game or after a finished quiz. Never while your child is playing or answering, not in the first few minutes, at least five minutes apart and at most eight a day. Ads are child-directed and not personalised.

Which phones does it work on?

Android phones and tablets from the last several years. It needs about 60 MB of space. Learning works without internet; ads appear only when the phone is online.
